Northwest Lineman College publishes its Electrical Lineworker Program costs by campus and by term, which makes it one of the few lineman schools you can price properly before enquiring. The numbers below come from NLC's own tuition page.
The headline: for 2026 Term 1, the total term cost is $23,548 in Idaho, $23,566 in Florida, $23,628 in Texas and $25,924 in California.

Figures as published on NLC's tuition page when we last checked. Two of the 2025 Term 1 California figures carry an asterisk on NLC's own table. Prices change by term — the Idaho tuition line rose from $17,500 to $18,835 across four terms — so confirm the current figure with the school before committing.
Three numbers, not one
NLC breaks each term into a tuition line, a total, and a higher total with electives. The difference between them is substantial — roughly $6,000 — and it is where people underestimate the cost.
- Tuition is the teaching, "due by 1st day of class".
- Total term cost adds the training lab and materials fee, and climbing and hand tools, NLC uniform and tax.
- Total with recommended courses and electives adds optional courses the school recommends. These are elective, but "recommended" carries weight when you are new to the trade and unsure what employers expect.
None of the three includes living costs. The programme is 15 weeks, offered three times a year at each of four campuses, and most students relocate.
There is no federal financial aid
This is the most consequential thing on NLC's tuition page and the least discussed. In the school's own words:
"Northwest Lineman College (NLC) is a private, for-profit higher learning institution. In an effort to keep tuition costs as affordable as possible, we have made the decision not to participate in Title IV funding. Because we don't participate in Title IV funding we are not required to issue 1098-T forms."
No Title IV means no Pell Grants and no federal student loans. It also means no 1098-T form, which is the document normally used to claim education tax credits.
What NLC offers instead: a partnership with UECU for "Energy Trade School Loans", where "students are able to finance the full cost of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board)", with deferment while in school and terms up to seven years; Edly income-based repayment loans financed by TAB Bank; and a set of campus-specific scholarships, including CareerSource Brevard-Flagler-Volusia and the FAPSC Foundation Scholarship for Florida, the Jack Richards Memorial Lineman Scholarship for California, and Wells Rural Electric Company for Idaho. Veterans' administration funding is referenced in the school's payment terms.
There is also a payment processing charge to budget for: NLC states that "a non-refundable PayPath Payment Service fee of 2.95% or a minimum of $3.00 will be added to each payment" — its funding page gives the figure as 3.00%. On a $23,000 balance that is around $690.
Seats are not held without payment
NLC states that "seats are not reserved until all admission requirements are met and payment in full is received or funding has been verified for student loans or veteran administration funds", and encourages applicants to pay in full as early as possible. Enrolment agreements for optional courses must be signed "by the end of business of the 2nd day of the term" — so the elective decision comes fast.
How it compares
Southeast Lineman Training Center publishes a total of $23,995 for its Electrical Lineworker Program, including Class A CDL training at $2,195. That is in the same range as NLC's non-California campuses, but the bundles differ — our SLTC cost breakdown sets out what each figure covers.

What school does not replace
A lineworker programme is training, not a job offer. Utilities and contractors still run their own hiring process, and for most investor-owned utilities that means an EEI aptitude battery — usually CAST for transmission and distribution work. Graduating from a lineman school does not exempt you from it.
