About the Assembling Objects section
Assembling Objects is the section that distinguishes MASS, the battery EEI describes for power plant maintenance roles — mechanic, machinist, electrician, welder, pipe fitter. The MASS brochure describes 20 questions in 15 minutes.
Each question shows parts on one side and assembled versions on the other. Only one uses every part in its correct orientation. The wrong options are the interesting part: typically one has a piece mirrored, one has it rotated past the connection point, and one has the right shapes joined in the wrong place. Learning to check for those three failures is most of the section.
It is a genuine maintenance skill — reading an exploded view and seeing how the parts go back together — which is why the battery includes it. Our items are generated with the parts and the correct assembly defined together, so every distractor has a stated reason to be wrong, and the explanation says which one it is.
Tips from practice
- Find the most distinctive part first and check where it ends up in each option; that usually kills two options immediately.
- Check for mirroring before rotation. A mirrored part can look right at a glance and never is.
- Count the parts. An option that quietly loses or gains a piece is a common distractor.
- 45 seconds a question is enough to check two options properly — use it rather than going with the first that looks plausible.
