We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), any EEI member company, or any electric utility, contractor or test administrator. "EEI", "CAST", "CAST-R", "POSS" and "MASS" are used only to describe the employment tests our material helps you get familiar with, and all trademarks are the property of their respective owners. Every question, drawing, passage and statement here is original work, written from publicly published descriptions of those tests; it is not real test content and is not identical to any real test. No employer publishes a cut score or pass mark for an EEI battery — cutoff scores are set locally by each employer — so nothing here tells you what score you need, and practicing here does not guarantee any score, index, interview or job offer.
No affiliation or endorsement
Utility Tests is an independent business. We are not part of, approved by, endorsed by or working with the Edison Electric Institute (EEI), any EEI member company, any electric utility or contractor, or any organization involved in developing, delivering or scoring the CAST, CAST-R, POSS or MASS batteries. We do not use the EEI name or logo as branding, and nothing on this site is official EEI or employer information.
Names of organizations and tests — including “EEI”, “CAST”, “CAST-R”, “POSS” and “MASS” — are used only descriptively, to say which tests our practice material relates to. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Original practice content
The real batteries are proprietary and their content is confidential and copyright. Every question, drawing, passage and statement on this site is original work created by Utility Tests, written or generated from publicly published descriptions of the sections — the test brochures utilities host on their own careers pages. We have not used EEI's candidate practice portal as a source and we do not reproduce or rework real items. We do not have, use, or accept real test questions, and we ask users never to send us any. If you believe something here reproduces protected material, please contact us and we will review it promptly.
Because the real content is not public, our sections are designed to practice the same kinds of skills in a similar format. They are not identical to any real battery in appearance, timing, difficulty or scoring, and the tests may change at any time — EEI has already revised CAST into CAST-R.
No guarantee of results
Using Utility Tests does not guarantee any score, index, interview, offer or employment. Scores, readiness summaries and feedback on this site are unofficial, apply only to our own practice exercises, and are a rough guide for tracking your practice rather than a prediction of your real result.
No pass mark, and information about hiring
No US utility publishes a cut score, pass mark or pass rate for an EEI battery. EEI's own CAST brochure says cutoff scores can be tailored to local company employment needs, so the standard is set by the employer and is not public. Nothing on this site tells you what score you need, and you should treat any site that does as guessing.
Descriptions of the batteries, scoring scales, retake waits, score validity and the hiring process are provided in good faith from publicly published sources, and may be incomplete or out of date. Always check the careers pages and the invitation letter of the employer you applied to before making decisions about your application.
